Comics and Middle School Student Engagement in the Twin Cities

For the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 academic year, I recorded and shared a virtual  talk about comics in libraries and graphic narratives of underrepresented voices with local middle school students in collaboration with the Institute of Community Engagement and Scholarship (ICES) at Metropolitan State University. I also spoke about my own path to becoming a comics artist, and provided a demo showing students how to make their own mini-comic book.

Feedback from ICES coordinator for K-12 school programs:

"Dawn...we did share the workshop with Saint Paul Schools, and they loved it!! We will share it out with Minneapolis Schools other Suburban Schools in spring [2021]."

My discussion on my journey to self-publishing graphic narratives starts at 23:00 in the video recording.  To see instructions on making comics, skip to 28:00.
