Tien Fu Wu: Freedom Warrior (Water Pig Press, 2022)

With funding from the Minnesota State Art Board 2022 Creative Support for Individuals grant, I completed the writing and illustrations for a full-color, research-based graphic narrative biography about Tien Fu Wu, a Chinese American community advocate who served as an interpreter in courts and on rescue missions to protect victims of sex trafficking across California and the U.S. during the turn of the 20th century. Limited edition paperback copies were self-published independently through Water Pig Press. I presented book talks across local libraries and academic conferences as well as exhibited at various comic arts festivals across North America in 2022. Excerpts of the book were also on display at Keefer Court Bakery and Café in Minneapolis up until its closing in Winter 2023.

Tye Leung Schulze: Translator for Justice, a comics biography (Water Pig Press, 2021)

After several years of research with support through various professional development grants, I wrote, illustrated and published limited paperback editions of a 140-page, full-color graphic narrative biography about the Tye Leung Schulze, the first Chinese American woman to vote in a US election in 1912.  A mini-exhibit featuring enlarged pages of the book was displayed at Keefer Court Bakery and Café in Minneapolis, the first and only Chinese bakery to open in the Twin Cities since 1983. I also coordinated local pop-up book launches and participated in open studios events at Northrup King Building in Minneapolis to promote the book.

Homecoming: Reflections on Journeying through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA). (Water Pig Press, 2021)

I wrote and designed a self-published zine about joining a women's only and BIPOC-inclusive camping group in July 2021, which included perspectives from Asian American novices, including myself, canoeing and exploring the BWCA for the first time ever. Proceeds of the zine's suggested donations went towards supporting the front line water protectors to stop Line 3. A free digital copy of the zine is available online. Henry Pan, reporter for local paper "The Reformer" interviewed Michelle Kwan and myself for an article about our trip.

Northern Spark Mail Art Project: "Friends are Silver and Gold" (Summer 2021)

I was selected to be a postcard artist by curators of the Northern Spark Mail Art Project: "Friends are Silver and Gold" after applying to an open call for BIPOC artists from and/or affiliated with East Saint Paul to create images connected to the theme of alchemy and the local community. Black and white printed postcards of artists' designs (to be colored in by recipients) and zines connected with the project were sent to residents of East Saint Paul. My postcard design titled "Lake Phalen Phoenix of Peace and Love" was inspired by the Chinese gate and wall featuring relief carvings depicting phoenixes which, in various cultures, are associated with renewal and peace.

Spamfight!, a short documentary video piece produced by Jin Yoo Kim, A-Doc #AsianAmCovidStories, July 27, 2020.

Filmmaker Jin Yoo-Kim’s statement: “From the story to the art to the food, spam spotlights the shared experiences of the colonized immigrant and united APIA women artists to contribute their art to bring “SPAMFIGHT!” to life.”

I was one of the APIA women artists invited by Ms. Kim to contribute a collage piece for the film title towards the beginning of the video clip.
